READING THE BOOK OF FIRST KINGS CHAPTER SIXTEEN.

Our favorite verse in 1 Kings Chapter 16 is:

So I am about to wipe out Baasha and his house, and I will make your house like that of Jeroboam son of Nebat. (1 Kings 16:3 NIV)

Historical commentary
The reign of the South, also known Isarel reign was characterized by the following: The kings belonged to different dynasties dynasty of Jeroboam dynasty Basa, Shimri dynasty, dynasty of Omri, etc… Some dynasties had only one king because his family was wiped out to be replaced by another. The second feature was the conduct of their apostate and pagan kings. They were evil and wicked.
1.    Although these kings belonged to the chosen people, the trajectory of their lives were far from the ideal of God.
2.    Baasha and his son Elah lead the people of Israel to greater apostasy.
3.    Zimri ruled only seven days, and he was conspired against. He preferred to commit suicide.

Our prayer

Dear God, we ask that you may keep us from following the path to self-destruction and idolatry shown in the lives of these kings. Give us victories through our dependence in your handy work. Amen
