READING THE BOOK OF Second Chronicles CHAPTER Seventeen.
The Lord was with Jehoshaphat because he followed the ways of his father David before him. He did not consult the Baals (2 Chronicles 17:3 NIV).
How to achieve success in all areas of life?
Historical Commentary.– In his efforts to rule wisely, Jehoshaphat endeavored to persuade his subjects to stand firm against idolatrous practices. Jehoshaphat himself was loyal to God. “He followed the ways of his father David before him. He did not consult the Baals” Because of his integrity, the Lord was with him, and “placed the kingdom under his hands … [because] the people needed to be instructed in the law of God. Their safety lay in the understanding of God’s law, if their life conformed to these requirements, they would be loyal to God and man. Jehoshaphat owed much of its prosperity as a ruler to this wise measure taken to meet the spiritual needs of his subjects. There is much benefit in the obedience of God’s law. In accordance with the divine requirements there is a transforming power that brings peace and goodwill among men. ” (PR 152).
Walk in God’s path.- Jehoshaphat did the following: a) “search” for God, he asked and learned how to hear God’s, he obeyed first, as king, so the people may follow him; b ) “walked” following the divine commands,”followed the ways of his father David before him”, this indicates that Jehoshaphat reached the spiritual level of David, c) He was encouraged at heart to deepen spiritual reforms and eradicate idolatry.
Share through teaching.- Jehoshaphat formed a select team of facilitators or teachers: The princes, Levites, and priests, were responsible for visiting all the cities of the kingdom to teach the book of the law of Jehovah. Knowledge and obedience to the Word of God, brought prosperity and reaches to the kingdom of the South.
Almighty God, we claim for your spirit to give us the desire to reach out to your daily through the reading of your word, we want to be obedient to your instructions. Please Lord, awaken in us a desire to share with others your plan of salvation. In the name of Jesus, amen.
