His word is perfect. – Let us renew our covenant with God and commit to reading his Holy Bible every day.

Our verse of reference in 2 Chronicles 34 is:

Then Shaphan the secretary informed the king, “Hilkiah the priest has given me a book.” And Shaphan read from it in the presence of the king.” (2 Chronicles 34:18 NIV).

Summary

This chapter shows the first year of Josiah’s reign. Chapter 34 may be summarized the following way: a) Early decrees and life of Josiah as king, b) Josiah is introduced to the Law of God (The Book) and comes to understand it, c) Josiah and the people renew their covenant with God.

Reflection

We must never forget The Book.

Historical Summary. – Josiah was deeply moved to hear for the first time the exhortations and warnings recorded in the ancient manuscript. He had never understood so clearly the simplicity with which God had presented Israel with “life and death, blessing and curse” (Deuteronomy 30:19) The book promises abounded concerning the willingness of God to save those who should trust him completely. Just as God delivered them from Egyptian, He wanted to work mightily to establish them in the promised land and place them as head among all nations of earth. The rewards offered for obedience was accompanied by prophecies of punishment to their disobedient. The king heard the words of inspiration and recognized that the box was describing conditions similar to those that existed then in his kingdom. PR 289, 290.

Neglect in reading the scriptures.– At this point in His life, Josiah was 24 years old, and he had never read the Scriptures containing the Torah. In other words, Josiah did not know that there was a Holy Book with the instructions of God. Dear friends, how long has it been since your last daily Bible study? Do you study your Bible on Saturday, Sunday and holidays or working days only? Do you study your Bible when you have exams, work overtime, or when you’re too busy? Do we enjoy daily reading of the Bible? do you consider the Bible the means by which God speaks to us?

Fruits of reading the word of God.–  Because of Josiah believe in the bible and interest in it, the following results were obtained: a) The king was promised peace for the rest of his life, because he humbled and repentant; b) The leaders were rededicated to God, b) all the people renewed the covenant of faithfulness to God. Dear friends, what fruits do you see because of your daily Bible reading?

Prayer

Our dear Father, thanks for giving us freedom to study the Bible. We ask your forgiveness for having neglected the daily reading of your word. Please, create within us the desire to study the Bible as our first activity of the day. In the name of Jesus, amen.
