READING THE BOOK OF SECOND KINGS CHAPTER SIXTEEN.

Do we have the courage to stand for what is right, may our faith and communion with God help us be a guiding light for those around us.

Our favorite verse in 2 Kings Chapter 16 is:

And Uriah the priest did just as King Ahaz had ordered. (2 Kings 16:16 NIV)
Lesson

Obey God rather than men.
  • Ahaz was the first king of God’s chosen people to sacrifice one of his sons to honor the god Molech. This pagan custom emulated the atoning sacrifice that Jesus as son of God would do for the benefit of our redemption.
  • Ahaz made the same mistake that we often make, that of placing our trust on human power or on their influence, not going to God requesting His power on our favor. He preferred to go to Tligat Pileser instead of calling upon God for deliverance.
  • Uriah the priest did not only lacked the courage to advise the king not to desecrate the temple of the Lord placing a sacrificial altar in honor of the pagan gods, but took part in his idolatrous worship.

    Prayer.

Lord our God. Please deliver us from wrong worship practices, may your Holy Spirit speaks to us and help us avoid falling into any form of idolatry. We also ask for your wisdom and courage to be instruments of guidance for those around us. We pray that our example and lead may bring people closer to you. In the name of Jesus, Amen.
