Test and strength.Let us be understanding and supporting hand for those going through difficulties.

Our verse of reference in Job 2 is:

“Then the Lord said to Satan, “Have you considered my servant Job? There is no one on earth like him; he is blameless and upright, a man who fears God and shuns evil. And he still maintains his integrity, though you incited me against him to ruin him without any reason.”” (Job 2:3 NIV).

Reflection

Integrity
Historical Commentary. – About Job, the patriarch of Uz, The Lord said that: “There is none like him on earth, a blameless and upright, fearing God and turning away from evil.” Satan uttered a derogatory accusation against this man, “Does Job fear God for nothing? Hast not thou protected him, his household and everything he has? […] But stretch out your hand and touch all that he has, “” his bone and flesh and he will surely curse you to your face. The Lord said to Satan, “Behold, all that he has is in your hand”. “Behold he is in thine hand, but save his life.” After obtaining permission, Satan took away from Job everything he owned: cattle, flocks, female servants, sons and daughters, and “smote Job with sore boils from the sole of his foot unto his crown.” ED 138.

Integrity despite the disease. – Modern medicine can say that the disease that Job has was cancer since the Biblical text says it was “evil”. Cancer along with other diseases are some of the most difficult to heal, they cause pain and suffering, both to patients and families. Dear brother and sister, my wish is that the diseases we may face, may make us appreciate life more, dependent more on God, and identify more with the people who are suffering because of different test in life.

Integrity despite FAMILY problems. – The happiness and dreams in marriage can evaporate when problems arise. Job’s wife being tired of poverty, the death of her children, and her partner’s incurable disease, that she came to Job and ask him “to curse God and he died” (verse 9). Do not give any place for Satan to take control of our homes. Cultivate a spirit of forgiveness, let us become agents of reconciliation, be proactive to find solutions to problems, and especially let Christ be the one that governs our homes.

Prayer

Loving father, extend your arms to comfort those who are suffering from diseases, may their faith be strengthened by your presence. We also ask you to heal the sick, eradicate selfishness and promote reconciliation among us. In the name of Jesus, amen.
